Hi people of this forum. I'm Dusk, but sometimes I prefer Dawn or Midnight so either of the three is fine. I've always had this idea at the back of my head to learn how to make something and sell it for a living. And now here I am signing up to a Leathercraft forum and figuring out where I'm going to source my tools and what I specifically want to make XD
One thing I can say for certain is that you people sure have some interesting and specific tools for the trade
Anyway, one thing I can say for certain is that I'm not even new to Leathercraft, but I'm keen to get started learning. I figure if I can skill up well enough and make nice enough objects I can start selling on Etsy. I've noticed that some people will shy away from techniques or methods to stay true to traditional techniques. While I appreciate using traditional methods I dont think I'd be stopping myself from using a tool if it means I can make something quicker or better. Main reason for this is I have a healthy appreciation of CNC mathines, Laser Cutters and 3D printing.
My design influences going forward will likely revolve around Alternate fashion and Gothic Styles. But in such a way that the whole look is cleaner, more futuristic and can appeal to a wider audience. Right now the selection of items I'm looking to craft are books, messenger bags/satchels, other kinds of bags and clothing later down the line since that area would be more complicated. I don't intend on staying strictly with leather for any future work as there are so many other cool materials to choose from and use in designs that can function better in certain situations.
Another reason for getting into Leathercraft is that it gives me the skills and tools to make my own clothing and bags. There is a massive lack of anything that suits my tastes in Perth and the stuff that does I usually need to get imported which adds huge expense I simply can't afford.
My Goal going forward is to add double my income to what I currently get per month minus expenses, which shouldn't be too hard it the works good and I can make enough.
Anyway that's my Introduction and I look forward to learning and aquiring everything I need to start in Leathercraft!
