  1. I'm very new to finishing leather, so remember that when reading this problem! I have an old, sought after pair of speed skating boots that I've stripped with acetone and dyed black. After dyeing, which went fine I unfortunately used a paste mink oil to condition, which I found out later contained silicone. After that I coated them with polyurethane floor finish that many people swear by. Total overkill, I know! I'd like to strip all this off and start over with some of the new knowledge I've gained from reading the forums here. I've stripped off a test area with acetone and attempted to condition and use a creme polish, but it never seems to absorb into the leather, and I'm left with an area that smooth but easily smudged! Any suggests on how to strip off my bad decisions would be very appreciated!
