  1. Byggyns- The leather is not dyed. it is simply still a little damp. At the time of this photo it had been drying for 24 hours. It is 8/9 0z from Tandy. It was left over from several years ago in my basement. It is 8 to 9 oz leather with a pigskin lining. I soaked it for two solid days and finally pulled it because I had heard some horror stories about mold. I think that your advice on the stitching is right on the mark.
  2. I learned a lot during the making of this. I know that it needs a lot of work. I couldn't get it to form correctly. I think I used too thick of leather.
  3. I traveled to Lima Ohio last week and got to meet Neal with Cowboy Sewing Machines. He was super nice and made time to show me the machine that I was interested in. He even took the time to set it up, fine tune it and let me sew on it before I made a decision. The attention to detail that he went through to help me to be successful with the machine was extraordinary. My first machine was a third-hand Aerostitch that I never had the patience to set up properly. I always felt that I was spending more time working on learning the machine than I did working with leather. Finally, I sold that a few years ago and have been just using a stitching horse. After watching a video where someone machine sewed in seconds what would have taken me an hour to do on my stitching horse I decided to try again with a machine. When I got the Cowboy 3200 home everything was well marked and easy to set up. I think it took me all of about thirty minutes to get from "in the box" to sewing. The machine is very heavy duty and the learning curve for simple projects is not very dramatic at all. My girlfriend and her daughter were very impressed by the size and weight of the machine and decided against the name that I initially gave it "Beast" and instead opted to call it "Recip'e" That is what is on the blue tape across the front. I have included before and after pics for your viewing pleasure.
  4. I finally bought a sewing machine. Here is a pic of the first project I have sewn on it.
