  1. the stitching looks sloppy so that's what made me thing it was done at a later date any way to tell how old the felt is?
  2. I have this old saddle I found its in pretty good shape the leather is really nice and soft for its age. But I've looked everywhere on the saddle for a maker stamps and come up empty I have two places where there are number stamps so far in my research I have found out that is was made in the 1940's. With the swells being something I've yet to see on any other saddle I would hope that would be something that would help identify it. I would like to restore it and would like to know what it looked like so I can get it to original as possible. It appears that is was re-fleeced with felt and I'm pretty cretin the leathers were replaced and I would like to see what is the best way to finish them as this leather is in need of replacing. give me your thoughts guys
  3. I'm looking for a place besides weaver to buy hand sewing needles. I need curved ones in various sizes Weaver only has 2 sizes Im hoping to find some small for those hard to reach areas. anyone know where to look? Thanks

  8. forgot to mention that it has a new servo motor and the original motor I think its a 1/2 horse power, I know its larger than the one on my other machine.
  9. Looking for pricing info on this one so I can advertise it for sale. thanks
  10. Wow, I thought its has to be worth something it's near perfect shape for its age, its always been indoors in ac for as long as I have known it. If I recall its been the the family for over 20 years now. I got a quoit form a sewing machine repair man and he said it was only worth $100.00 funny thing is when he worked on it he said the opposite! I guess he forgot that he put that new servo motor on it that was $200 at the time. I could get more than that at a scrap yard for the metal. I hate to sell it but I need to make room for my new machine I have sold my other machine and looking to house only one machine due to the lack of room in my shop and its only me working. Any one interested please contact me, I don't know where else to advertise it. Thanks guys

  16. Hello, I'm looking for some advise or suggestions on the best way to restitch a saddle horn on a western saddle. I would love to hear how you all do this I'm sure there are several ways. Thanks
  17. I would like to find each of them in 1' and 3/4" in stainless steel and solid brass. I hate to order just a few things from one co. here and another one there, if you know what I mean. The rounded buckle the #162 in the Weaver catalog comes in ss & sb but only in 1" they do have it in sb 3/4 but not the ss go figure. The smaller sizes are always NP or BP I don't like useing that due to it rusting or corrosion. The more square buckle #147 in Weaver catalog they have them in ss & sb for the 1" they have it in 3/4 for the sb but not in the ss for that size. I hope I didn't loose anyone here on this. Thanks for all the replies it did open the door to new suppliers for other things.
  18. I'm looking for a few pieces that Weaver does not carry in the stainless steel and solid brass. They are buckles for horse halters or bridles and I could use them for dog collars as well and I would also need d rings for dog collars that are not to thick. Any know know of a good supplier that has a large selection of this stuff?
  19. What about using latigo lacing in the holes instead of metal rivets? as it is cracked around the edges from the old rivets. Thanks
  20. Ok there has got to be someone on here that works on saddles more than I do. The finders were riveted and was wondering what would be the best option to attach new leathers to? leather or more rivets? any ideas?
  21. I have a saddle that I need to replace the leathers on and still use the original finders is there a way I should and should not do this? also need to replace the old buckles with new Blevins buckles. I know with out pictures it might be hard to tell, so I will add them in a bit. Thanks Lena
  22. Well I don't have a store front to worry about, I fix a few things here and there didn't know if anyone here had a list on there websites or something for me to compare to. (I have not had to purchase leather yet or to much hardware it all came together when purchased) but I will soon and then I will need to make sure I charge what I paid for it plus my time. What do you thing would be a fair price? I have a few leather halters to fix and a few leather breast plates that need the girth attachment replaced due to sweat damage from the rusted hardware.
  23. Hi I am just starting out and was wondering if anyone here has a good guide for pricing repair work? Thanks
