  1. Howdy all. Been lurkin for a while now and thought I should emerge from the shadders. Ive been braiding for about four years give or take, mostly paracord whips and quirts for the folks round here. So I says to meself, "self, you need to make a reata". Good idea. I'll just knock one out frome chute cord then i'll step up to rawhide. And then I proceed to congratulate meself on what a wise and inovative individual I truly am. Folks, This thing very nearly caused me to turn to drink. Well, not nearly, it actually did. Six strand u2 o1 alternating plait over fifty foot 3/8 nylon core with san juan honda. I did use rawhide for the burner. I do not exagerate when I say I hope to never do anything that stupid again. But as an exersize in endurance, well, u can probably figger that out. Turned out to be more like 45 feet and I gotta say, Im pretty pleased. No pics as yet, but I'll post em up as soon as I can. And no, I do not want to talk about the difficulty involved in gutting 6 75 ft strands of chute cord. The horror. The Horror. Anyways, thanks for readin and keepin this forum alive.
  2. Then that should do you up nicely. Ive made a lot of nylons to help pay for roo hide. The calluses on the edges of my pinky fingers are something to behold. This method produces a very light fall that's easy to replace. Quick to make to boot.
  3. Any time sir. Are you using the aussie type fall attachment?
  4. Sir, When i make falls for my nylons (whips, not stockings mind you) I simply gut a piece of chute cord twice as long as the desired fall length. Taper and melt the end and thread on a slightly sharpened permalock needle. Insert needle approximately one inch from center and run it out the end. Detach needle and adjust so that you have about an inch of hollow cord at the end to attach your cracker. Clear as mud?
  5. Just wanted to give a quick "hidey" from the great commonwealth of Ky. Been whipmaking for 'bout three years now, mostly nylon bulls and snakes with a few stockers thrown in. Got some roo hide coming my way next week and I hope to be able to get some pics up soon.
