Thank you Mr. Kovar.

I saw a thread where I think it was Wiz who posted a thread about 29k machines, he recommended a 19 size needle and my feeble memory has slipped on the thread size, I wanna say 19 needle and 60 thread bonded nylon thread?

I am a newbie here but have been using the search feature and want to give a big shout out to all, this place is great, I searched for posts on a 29k51 I have that is out of time, bad out of time, found some pictures and since I have no manuals thanks to snail mail I have spent 5 days of pure frustration, the pictures were of a properly tuned shuttle plate, at least I found out where I needed to get too, the cam adjustment would not get me close or remain in position as close as I could get it, spin the hand wheel about four times and it was right back to where I started from, what made no sense to me something was moving and I could not find it, until I thought there has to be a nut on the back side of that cam, sure enough it turned 2 plus turns before it made contact so my trusty 3/8ths wrench fixed that part but it was still out of time, more looking and I took the plate off the gearbox everything seemed ok not to much play and no signs of wear, then it dawned on me, I dropped the needle to the lowest position and removed the middle gear and manually placed the shuttle carrier where it needed to go and reinstalled the middle gear snugged up that cam nut so it could not move and my machine was in time and will pick up that bobbin thread like a champ, have been playing with tension and have it sewing a pretty good stich with what I have, need needles and proper thread and I am confident it will sew great. Thanks again to all, saved me and my sledge hammer some work. I also have an 1893 29-2 that sews but has been cobbled up with modern stuff, another project for another day, Regards to all Rick

I am a 69 year old retired man in North Florida, friends call me Rick and you can feel free to do so, I have two Singer cobbler machines, a 1893 29-2 with no letter designation, and a 29k51. my hobbies are fishing, custom fishing rod tying, I am a competitive Trap shooter, and I tinker with gunsmithing for my self and friends. I also dabble in leather work but I am the first to admit I am a novice and have the desire to improve. I am disabled now as Mother nature has thrown me a couple curve balls that I missed, never could hit a curve ball, so the leather craft is looking better all the time, this may not be the place but I want to give the Forum a shout out, my 51 was badly out of time, my manuals have not arrived so I have been shooting in the dark. In the How do I do that section I searched and found some vey good illustration's and with some diligence it is now in time I will share what I found and what I did over in that section . Regards to all Rick

hivoltfl replied to bruno24's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
My machine is doing the same thing, 5 days of frustration and I about to repair it with a sledge hammer or 5 sticks of Dynamite, cannot keep it in time, time it like it should be, roll the hand wheel 4 or five times and its out of time again it is a 1925 vintage machine, I have a 29-2 no k involved that is a 1893 model old sews pretty good.- 5 replies
