I dabble in leatherworking and hat making, and crossed paths with a BF Cummins Initial Perforating Machine so I picked it up on a whim. This tool is a genuine antique from the late 1890s, when everyone wore hats and checked their hats at various venues so every hats store had a punch to add the customers initials to the leather sweatbands of their hats. I briefly considered making and selling leather sweatbands on etsy or such and offering custom initialed sweatbands but I don't have a reeding and ribbon guide nor an industrial sewing machine to put them on so I thought I'd see if anyone may be interested in such a tool.

I did not see a reverse lever. I had thought it may be able to reverse using the foot pedal... and at first when I asked the owner he said yes, then no, that pressing the heel down on the lever cuts the thread. He is 76 years old and despite using the machine didn't know much about what can be changed.

Well it turns out it is a Pfaff 441-R-755-03-900-51-BL. The owner used to sew shoe uppers on it, as well as belts. It has automatic thread cutting, I dont know then if it can be changed to back stitch a few stitches before it cuts the thread... I am uncertain whether I should buy it along with a Singer 29K71 I am going to buy from the person.

Thank you for the feedback. I am hoping that this will be appropriate for light leather sewing and maybe belts and bags that are not too heavy.

Could anyone confirm that this is a pfaff 1243 with roller presser ? I suppose it could be a 1244 twin needle
