Hello everybody! I'm new to leatherwork and new to the site. I'm loving leatherwork. I've started out making belts. One problem I'm having is my leather bleeding. Starting out I did not put a sealer on my belts - just dye and oil. So one belt was bleeding onto my grey pair of jeans and my lady's belt was still a bit wet on the backside even after a cpl weeks. So I daubed Tan-Kote on it and wiped the excess off with a cloth. I let it set a day and polished it out with a white t-shirt rag. Some dye still came off the belt and so I did that a total of three times over three days. I don't know if maybe I didn't let the dye dry long enough before putting neatsfoot oil on it or if I'm doing something else wrong. I'd like to have more of a sating finish. Looking to make belts, dog collars and other straps right now. Also I plan to edge dye and burnish as a last step before stitching. Do I need to seal the burnishing? The bleeding is the most important issue at the moment tho. Any advice would be much appreciated!
