  1. @MtlBiker Thanks so much for your advise!! Yes i'm new to using a bell skiver. I got it not long ago. I changed the roller to a rubber one for soft chrome leather. The stone roller was too harsh and grippy and kept ripping my leather. @mike02130 thank you!!
  2. Hi all, How do you prevent your leather from being over skived by this bit of the bell knife? I circled it in the photo. As you can see, I have my skiving width set with the guide against the pressure foot, but as I feed my leather through, the bell knife trims off more of the leather too, resulting in uneven skive. It's like it got sucked in. Is this technique or something I can adjust? I appreciate any help. Thank you
  3. Hi, I'm new to leather craft and the skiving machine is causing me a lot of stress. I seem to have mastered many skills except for skiving... My skiving machine sucks in the leather in the end and rips it as shown in the picture. When I lessen the pressure on the pressure foot, the leather does not have enough grip to on on the feed. When I tighten the pressure foot the leather gets over skived and becomes very weak, uneven, and thin. Could it be that the leather is soft chrome tanned napa? Certainly it can be skived because there are leather goods made from soft leather. YES, I have sharpened the blades. It is very sharp and clean. Will getting a different pressure foot help? I was think of a roller one : ( Help!
  4. Hi leatherworker community, I need to skive my round gussets but am having a bit of trouble with the skiving machine (SIECK HA 50). I'm wondering if you guys can give me tips on skiving curves/round parts. I can't seem to find any resources online to learn about it. Maybe you can point me to a video or give me some tricks and tips. Thank you!
