Wiz, shoe repair finders are the places to find these things with affordability. At the shoe repair shop I work at, we get our needles at D+L Leather in Utica N.Y. I get my 332 LL needles for my Adler 30-1 from them, and can't see why yo couldn't get the "LGs" from them. Hope this helps.

I've been trying to find that elastic for ten years now. I think Ariat has it made for them. I do alot of repairs and alterations. Could make way more money! So I found this old topic and hoping to revive it in attempts to find an answer. I would also like to sew in a stretch piece into my chaps and can't find the right elastic or fabric for it. Anyone ever solve this?

searched all over, but cant find anything in the archives. got a huge problem with my shotgun show chaps i'm trying to figure out. i've made 3 pair over the last couple years and two of them, the side seam (zipper with fringe) "twists" around the leg as it gets closer to the boot. this last pair twists almost all the way around! i'm using the old Tandy pattern pack. funny though, i've made like a couple hundred pair of motorcycle chaps over the years, and not a single problem. weird. is there something i'm missing guys? ANY help would be awesome!

customer had an old sewing machine in her barn, asked me if i wanted it. she said it was an industrial machine. needless to say, i went to look at it. did not "know" the machine, but it turned nice and smooth so i brought it home to save it from a probable death by neglect. its a Singer 251-12. cant find hardly ANYTHING on this machine online. anyone know what this machine is for, when was production, etc. if nothing else, i think it would be good for my test garments. thank for any info anybody can give.

i've been ordering from Springfield since the mid '90s. NOTHING but good to say about Kevin and the girls. was down in Texas in the "craft shop" (some of you know what i mean) when i got turned on to SP, never had a issue, and Kevin NEVER takes advantage of that situation. in fact, he does his best to help those guys. Kevin will get the bulk of my orders cause "he gets it"

i just use sole bend and stack my own heel blocks. the sole bend is more than hard enough for heels

That's bizarre since i just saw in the news that the largest ever in captivity was 24' and just died (owned by a zoo). Hmmmm you maybe got lucky to find such large snake skins!! Those would have been worth a fortune I bet!
i too had gotten 20 ft. python skins from Cobos two differant times. this was back in the mid 90s. it was VERY reasonable in price too. i think i paid like 150.00 for a 6 to 7 meter skin. used to get 3-4 pair of boots per skin! ahh, those were the days!!! STILL got a 10ft. stash for the right time!!
I'm looking to purchase PYTHON SNAKE SKIN that is 12" to 18" wide or wider and at least 22 feet long.
Tandy's Python Snake Skins are only approx. 6" to 10" wide, 10 to 12 feet long.
The last time I purchased a NICE Python Skin was at COBOS LEATHERWERX, in El Paso,Tx....but I believe he has retired. I had bought several Python Skins from Dave Cobo and they were beautiful...12" to 20" wide, 20 feet to 26 feet long.
Thanks to all for any info.
gotta love one piece vamps!!! they sure were nice skins, weren't they?

Hi Bergjes.
To me it looks like an 7, or 8 strand quarter round braid with a sequence of;
U1-O1-U1 / O1-U1-O1, around the back and either O2-U2, or U2-O2. The objective with that sequence is so that the band will bend around the wrist without separating the parts on the top of the band.
For the core that bracelet must have a bendable plastic core of some type.
The findings are most likely bought from a supplier somewhere. I don't know where though. I'd like to know myself. That is a very nice finding.
Brian...
yeah, just where DO you "find" those real cool findings?!?(pun intended!) i think "they"(whoever they are!) keep the cool hardware away from us! dirty dogs!

Can someone tell me where you can buy vinyl piping that is used in boot making? I am not making boots, but need some of the same type of materials. I can't find anyone here in town that carries it, not even the shoe repair place, and I really don't want to make my own - faster and less expensive to buy it...IF I can find it....can you boot makers tell me where you find this stuff?
thanks much!
Charlene
just make it Charlene. when San Angelo Leather went out, i started making mine. 2-3oz. glovey chrome, #6 cord from Memphis Twine(or any heavy cord) glue it up, roll it over, trim it up. you can make up quite a few feet real fast, AND, its NOT vinyl!!!

Hi All
I am having problems finding a source for #8 YKK brass zippers. #10's are to heavy and #5 are wimpy looking. I have tried google and got nothing. Ohio bag does not carry it, neither does Weaver. I could order from YKK but one order would be a couple of lifetimes supply for me!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim
jim,
are you looking for a separating(jacket) zipper, or one you can just make up? if your looking for a jacket zipp, they make a #7 black with antiqe(sp) brass teeth. its just what your looking for. i take out #5 s ALL the time and put the #7 in, in coats. the place to get them is Cleaner Supply. its in N.Y.
they have loads of zipper stuff.

want to intro myself to my fellow leatherworkers. ive been lurking for a little while. thought i'd say hi! been doing leatherwork for about 15 years now, have had my own shop for almost a year now. do about anything there. shoe repair, bootmaking(when someone will pay the labor costs!) LOTS of bike stuff, and quite a bit of braiding and knots. wanted to tell you guys that i think this board is the best thing for our trades and crafts. the sharing of knowledge here is something i've NEVER seen! i'm gonna try to upload a couple pics, this boards controls got me confused! well, they keep telling me the file is too big (never heard THAT before!) too old for this stress!!

Hello All, I am new to leatherworking. My past projects have been some knife pouches and sheaths on which I have done some edge braiding with good success. I am trying to get into more braiding ( knots, turks heads, and the like ) to add/expand my work. The problem is this ,I have Grants book on braiding, but to put it simply I dont get it !!!. So I am asking you good folks for any referances that might be easier for this redneck to understand. As mentioned earlier the edge braiding I have done has not been hard ( got a good book from the Tandy store with good pictures and instructions) and I dont guess the rest can be that hard provided you have good instructions. So Ladies and Gentlemen ..... I need some help.
Thank ya'll kindly
Kenneth.
Kenneth, i struggled with Mr. Grants book for YEARS(insert tears of frustration here!) untill i found Tom Halls books on turks heads. it was like a light went on over my head! Toms way of showing the way you follow the knot is SO simple. i have NO idea where to find Toms books. a friend of Toms got them directly from him for me. perhaps someone here knows where to get them. i cant recommend them enough!

Vinculus, how much is that in USD ? Here in the states, that is a $4,000-6,000 machine in good running shape. I'm thinking you "stole" it!!! Good score.
