Hi everyone. I'm new to the landis 3. Just got one last week. I'm trying to stitch some harness traces that are about 5/8" thick. I want to move the presser foot up in height a bit. Does anyone here know how to do that? I have a manual and it makes no sense to me. I've gone over it so many time now my brain hurts. I simply can see anywhere on here for adjustment. Thanks for any help on this. Brian Merrick

Thank you! That's a huge help. I do have liquid wax running through the wax pot and I'm also waxing the thread on the bobbin. I might try putting a bit of silicone on the awl itself. See if that helps. But I'll definetly try switching around the needle and awl sizes to see if that helps. And tightening down the presser foot too. Thank you!

Hello. I picked up a landis three a few days ago. It's running good however it keeps lifting the leather. I've tried adjusting the feeder foot pressure. I'm sewing 3 layers of 12/13oz together. Making lead harness traces. So it's pretty heavy. Does anyone know what might be causing the lifting and how to correct it? Thank you for any and all help.

Hello. Does anyone know, do the landis 3 and 16 take the same needles and awls? I just picked up an old #3 and I don't see a lot of needles and awls available out there for it. Or does anyone know where I can get those two things for the #3? Thanks for any and all help. Brian Merrick

I'm having an issue with the tension on my cobra 4 that I've never had before. Suddenly no matter what I do or how I adjust the tension my top thread is still showing on the bottom of the leather. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried adjusting the top tensions amd the bobbin tension many Manu times now. I ca t seem to get it it change at all. Thanks so much. Brian Merrick

Thanks for all the replies and ideas!! I appreciate the help. I tried a table saw and a skillsaw with some plywood. Weirdly the fine tooth blade burned the leather really badly. A more aggressive tooth blade did better but still was pretty rough. It goes fine for a bit and then it just wants to tear everything up. Bandsaw is a good idea. I'm not sure how I'm gonna hold that large of a piece up while feeding it though the saw. I'd have to build a table around the bandsaw to lay the three sides on to they would stay together. Brian.

Forgot to mention, sorry.. I did try to make 2 strap cutters that had 3/4" clearance, 1.75 width and used a utillity knife blade. One you manually pulled like a standard strap cutter. The other you clamped to the table and pulled the side through. Both failed. Miserably.. 🤪 The worked great with 2 layers. Just not with thre three layers of 12/13 unfortunately.

Hello. I've been doing leather for almost 30 years now. Recently I've started making reproduction harness for civil war artillery reenactors. The traces are 3 layers of 12/13oz and what I'd like to do is glue the sides together and then cut them into 1.75" straps. I've been cutting the straps individually and then gluing each layer together and I'd like to streamline the process a bit by just gluing the entire sides together and then cutting. Any suggestions on how to cut the straps out of that thickness besides a straight edge and utillity knife?...lol. Once all three sides are glued together, it's about 5/8" thick. Plough gauge? Draw gauge? Chainsaw??..lol. Thank you everyone in advance for any and all help with this. It's much appreciated. Brian Merrick. Merricks Custom Leather

Hello. I found a Landis #1 at a very good price and in considering buying it. I have gotten into a lot more heavy harness work but need to sew with natural thread, linen/cotton. My question is, how hard are the parts to find these days? Needles, awls, etc...? Thanks so much for any and all help. Brian Merrick

Hello. I'm looking for wider bag/oblong punches for large harness buckles. Does anyone happen to know where I can find anything? I have all tje oblong punches in lengths I need. However I'm now working with heavier harness leather and large buckles so I need larger buckle slots. Thanks in advance Brian Merrick

Hi everyone. I have a cobra class 4. Just bought and just started using. Up until now I've hand sewn everything. Something I hadn't thought about popped up today.. when sewing a piece if hardware to a strap, buckle, ring, etc... going one way I can stitch fairly close to the hardware. Going the other way the presser foot comes down where the leather is folded over the hardware. So the it doesn't want ti feed the leather correctly then and the first few stitches look awful. If I flip thw strap over so I can sew towards the hardware then the bottom stitches become the top stitches and don't look as nice. See my photos attached. Is there a way to fix this? Special presser foot? Thank you all in advance for the help. I truly appreciate it. Brian

Hi. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. Right now I have barbours 4 cord linen thread in the cobra class 4. I have silicone lubricant in the wax pot. I don't honestly care what lube I have to use as long as I can use linen thread in the machine. The silicone lube seems to have made it worse honestly. I actually was stitching with linen before I added the lube. I wad told the lube would add strength and if I was using linen thread I needed to use lubricant. . For the needle im using schmetz 200/25 Not sure what the thread size I'm using in the juki 341 is. It says 16 on the spool. Lol. I've been getting it for years at a local fabric shop. I'll attach a photo. The needle is a schmetz 140/22. I only use that for lighter leather. Like 3 oz and below.
