Brad44 Report post Posted September 19, 2022 I have been using a Durkopp Adler 165 for many years with only one occasional issue. At times I need to sew several layers, generally canvas, and or webbing. Often when I am at or near the foot height limit, or passing a seam with multiple layers, I skip stitches and struggle with the work.. Recently I agreed to help a retiree clean up and sell their Pfaff 545 H4 high lift machine. It uses a longer needle and definitely seems better. My thinking is that If I only want to keep one or the other. Is the Pfaff the obvious choice or is the Durkopp a far superior machine in other ways. thanks for any input Brad
Constabulary Report post Posted September 19, 2022 You mean the Adler 165 or the 167? The 165 is a cylinder arm drop feed machine with barrel hook
Brad44 Report post Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) Whoops, my bad mixing up machines. It’s a 67-GK373 Edited September 20, 2022 by Brad44
Constabulary Report post Posted September 20, 2022 I would go with the Pfaff but depends on the overall conditions of the two machines. What I like better on the Pfaff is the stitch length adjuster and the machine has no timing belt. It is shaft driven. "Around the hook" they are very similar. No one can guarantee you the Paff will sew better. That often is a question of how the machine is set up (needle hook timing, needle hook distance and so forth - also age and wear matters). I would test sew them both with the max. material thickness you would sew in your business and then decide.
Brad44 Report post Posted September 20, 2022 Thanks, that’s what I wanted to hear. I mainly sew apparel on a Juki and only use the walking foot occasionally. stitch is good on both, I like the simplicity of the Pfaff and as mentioned before, the higher lift
