How do you get T-nuts through leather?

I'm trying to get a Tnut through a leather band but I can't seem to make it work. I'd like to know how it's done and also if Chicago screws would work for interchangeable belt loops. Any information would be greatly apprecaited.

I'm not sure I know what you mean. I usually just drill a hole and insert the t nut. Maybe we are not talking about the same thing. A t nut to me is like the threaded part of a chicago screw. Is that what you are talking about?

I've used thousands of them and I just poke the female threaded part in the punched hole and wack it with a hammer to set the 4 prongs in the leather and then tightn the screw which pulls the 4 prongs in tighter!

I can't seem to get the prongs through the leather, I have a holster here that the prongs are slightly through the leather and they are bent over to secure it. Do you think just having them into the leather would be good enough?

If you don't screw them in tight the washer part will stick up a bit. I've never used "T" nuts where the prongs came right through the leather, the leather I've used has always been heavy enough for them not to protrude.

Punch a hole for where the shaft is to go through. Pound the t-nut through the hole/leather from the backside - generally into a piece of rubber pounding board or similar. Bend the potruding portion of the prongs over. This will hold the t-nut securely in place and will prevent any chance of it working itself loose, not worth taking a risk for IMHO.
