Joining two pieces of leather for a long gusset

Recommended Posts

I’m making a handbag that needs a long gusset running side to side. Sadly, I don’t have a piece of leather long enough. I want to join two pieces at the center of the bottom of the bag. What kind of seam  do I need for that purpose. The gusset will be joined to the front panel with a piped seam and to the back with a simple seam, which I’ll finish with with a binding that will continue all the way around the flap. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would skive the ends of both pieces, back about 2 inches or so, overlap, glue and use a simple running stitch in two places, both near, but not to close to the ends of the over lap

Found the answer on the CORTER YouTube channel. A French seam does the trick. Thanks for your input.
