Hilly Report post Posted November 16, 2007 Aside from linings or moccasins, mountain man type clothing, and wiping off your newly washed car, what else are deer hides good for? I have several that have been sitting around for ages, and am looking for uses for it. I once made a shotgun "sock" type case for my husband's shotgun, but he says the gun is difficult to get in and out of it. How is it to sew with an industrial walking foot machine? I do have leather needles for the machine... Thanks, Hilly

gunfighter48 Report post Posted November 17, 2007 Deer hide makes beautiful coats. There was an Indian woman where I grew up that hand sewed coats from deer hides that she tanned. She did exquisite bead work designs on the backs of the coats. She made coast up to her 90's and lived to be over 108 (they didn't have any printed records when she was born and think she may have been over 114 years old). Deer hide also makes good leather worker aprons.
