Singer 111w100 with Spindle Stitch length adjuster is stuck at 6 stitches per inch

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My Singer 111w100 is stuck at 6 stitches per inch. It used to adjust up and down and indeed the stitch length adjuster at the end of the flywheel does continue to turn and shows different numbers in the cutout notch...but it does not change the actual stitch length,

I notice that the entire thing turns...meaning that if I want to see the numbers in the cutout notch in order to adjust the stitch length, I will first need to turn the flywheel so the notch is facing me. I wonder if this is not how it should work. Honestly, I cannot remember if it did that when it was working properly.

I do have the diagram for the two screws to adjust the stitch length spindle, but I am confused as to where those screws are located. Are they under the timing belt? Will I need to take off the entire timing belt? Is that difficult? I am a woman and have never attempted this before...though I have certainly fixed a few car fan belts with a pair of pantyhose in my lifetime! ;) I don't own the part that allows you to slide the belt off and back on, so I am afraid of getting to off and never getting it back on. I looked for one to buy online, but didn't see one available on eBay at the moment....maybe I am reading it all wrong and the screws are actually elsewhere?

If anyone can help me answer any one of these questions, that would be awesome!!!

Thank you!

Hetti

This video might shed some light on how mechanism is supposed to work. You may just need to add few drops of oil to get yours going again.

Don’t take off the fabric belt, it may never be the same again.

Thank you so much Uwe! Especially for the advice of NOT removing the belt if there is another option! I will check these out and see what I can do! Ill keep you posted.
