Singer 45k25

Recommended Posts

I am still looking for a sewing machine for my leather hobby and learning as I go in regards to what will work for my needs. I can see that a cobra class 26 with servo and gear reduction would be perfect but looking for something used that is available in my area as shipping is pricey as well. I am in the Vancouver area Canada and I see not too far away is a Singer 45k25 for sale that looks interesting priced at $1350 cnd and has servo with speed reducer. I see a video of it in action but not sure how it would compare to the newer offerings like the cobra. Any tips much appreciated. I mostly do vintage MC  saddles and some handbags and other odds and ends and the cylinder arm machines look like what I want with slow speed.

The SInger 45k25 is a bottom (drop) feed machine with a fixed position presser foot and needle. The feed dog on the bottom raises up and grabs the bottom of the leather and pushes it through for the next stitch. The teeth are fairly aggressive and will leave deep marks in the bottom if there is a grain side facing down. If you always sew with the flesh side down, those marks will be mostly invisible.

The 45k can sew with up to #277 thread using a #25 leather point needle.
