Apprenticeships in Iowa

Recommended Posts

I have made leatherworking into hobby over the course of the past 4 years, but would like to do more with the craft. Are there any good leatherworking apprenticeship locations in the Midwest? I'm open to paid or unpaid programs as well. My ultimate goal is to start my own business, but I'd like to get some education under my belt before I start selling actual products. How did those of you who own their own business learn the craft? When were you comfortable selling your products?

What do you want to make?  Ashley Hopper (Punky's Saddlery, Cuba MO) mentioned her plans to host courses in her new workshop. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/iuoAHCCXYq7r1d3P/?mibextid=oFDknk

Lisa Sorrell (Sorrell's Custom Boots, Guthrie OK) teaches boot making courses. https://customboots.net/

Thanks for the post! I'll look into these!

For things made I wanted to start off making leather wallets and eventually scale up the business to SCA Armor or Renaissance Festival Armor for things like cosplay.
