my second knife case

Ok just finished my second knife case and here it is. The casing was a little easier this time but my clip turned out a little lose. I was wondering when doing somthing like this which order do I go? I did in the following steps but I couldn't get any dye under the clip

1. mold

2. attached buttong and clip

3. stich

4. dye and applied sealer

Alvin...the reason the clip is loose is because the part of the clip you rivet goes inside the sheath. You have to punch two oblong slots, one at the top of the clip to allow the fold of the clip come outside the backing, and a second one where the indentation of the clip is at. This makes the clip stay in place.

My order of go would be:

1. mold

2. dye

3. punch and attach clip

4. stitch

5. seal/finish

6. have a beer

I also usually line this type of sheath so the clip won't rub agains the knife.

I use these holster clips with a lot of the projects I make.

You will see by the picture that I cut a second back out with two slots (just bigger than the clip itself) and fit the clip to it then sew the whole thing on then rivet the clip and back to the back of the pouch. That way everything is held secure and the clip cant move at all.

This is a pic of my flip phone pouch which I use every day and the clip is great. I actually buy them from Lowery in Ca.

That's exactly what I was trying to describe in words, only diff is you mount the clip to a piece of leather then sew it on....good idea, then you don't have to line the entire sheath...I like that!

thank you very much for the info! I was wondering what that hump was for and which I had an example to look at before I put everything together. I almost want to take this apart and redo it.
