gtwister09 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 We have had a few discussion lately on certain splitters but I thought that I would ask for a more comprehensive discussion. I have used four or five of these splitters a little but I thought that I would ask others with a whole lot more experience to weigh in on the Pros/Cons. Please detail any issues and preferences that you have for the following makes, models and types. tonyc1 Report post Posted December 15, 2007 I have only just found out who made 2 splitters I have used for 40 years. They were made by Hanson and are great tools when sharpened correctly. They are a pull thru type and have a 10" blade and the great thing about them is that I've never had a piece slice itself in half like can happen with the Osborne type #86 which I also have. I am awaiting delivery of a new splitter from Campbell Bosworth modelled after the Osborne#84 but it is probably a week away yet so I can't comment about it. I will be selling 1 of the Hanson splitters and the #86 Osborne after I get the new one to defray cost, so if anyone is interested let me know. This should be interesting about different splitters and their actions, so send in your comments and photos as well!
greg gomersall Report post Posted December 15, 2007 I use a Randall Krebs pattern for my bench splitter and feel they are well worth the extra money they cost and I also have an 18" International Harness Machine Company crank splitter, A big splitter that works good is worth its weight in gold for evening up fork covers, cantle backs and bindings, skirt plugs, levelling skirts off and if you are doing a doubled and stitched rig you can even level the fenders and jockeys.
