I think I'd like to next get a bench grinder

Recommended Posts

I think I'd like to next get a bench grinder so that I can use the sharpening system sold by weaver and hidecrafters to sharpen scissors, knives, and splitting blades.

Harbror Freight was a good place for a cheap drill press, are they also good for bench grinders? Is there a certain size I should go for?

Thanks for the help,

Ed

most of the cheap import bench grinders have 1/2 inch shaft, with 6 inch wheels. Try find a low speed 1800rpm, so that you do not overheat your tools and loose there temper.

I dont know about speeds... but I got my 8" from harbor Freight and the sharpening system from Weaver fits it great... I actually got it from a different source and saved a few dollars, but it is the same sharpening system.... I have used it to sharpen everything I own.... including a sword I have....

Ed, just don't station it anywhere that leather can come in contanct with the grindings or you will be dealing with alot of black stains. Easier said than done sometimes, as you had said your workspace is rather short on space. Like mine LOL Jordan

What is the diameter of those sharpening system wheels from Weaver and hidecrafters? If they are 8" I should go with the 8" grinder form harbor freight.
