Members Kani Posted February 20, 2008 Members Report Posted February 20, 2008 For those of you who make their own stamping tools. What do you make them out of? I have seen several tools on ebay that people have made and was wondering what they made them out of. Bolts or what? Some have intresting designs. Thanks, Kani Quote
Members robert Posted February 20, 2008 Members Report Posted February 20, 2008 Hi Kani I use stainless steel bolts (i have had some on ebay recently, so you may have seen them). you can use about anything though... i prefer stainless because it wont corrode or rust. i had a short tutorial on a thread a while back, but i think it got lost in the big crash. i will find it and post it again if folks are interested. i am out of the country right now so it will be a few days. robert Quote
Elton Joorisity Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I learned to build tools with 10" common spikes. I use 10" nails because I can make two tools with one nail. The steel in these is great to work with and is easy to polish. I am starting to use stainless bolts because any of my steel stamps with checkering or lines tend to be harder to keep from getting black spots on the leather.
