Members jarheaddoc Posted February 16 Members Report Posted February 16 What are some techniques for this? I am working with deer hides. Thanks Quote
Members AEBL Posted Thursday at 02:54 PM Members Report Posted Thursday at 02:54 PM Sounds like you want something like a "leather splitter." They range in price from expensive to very expensive. If you're splitting an entire hide ... you might have to find some company to do that for you. In your case, unless you can make friends like that, you might be better off selling your hides and buying deerskin that has been processed to your desired thickness. Quote
Members sheathmaker Posted Friday at 04:52 AM Members Report Posted Friday at 04:52 AM Good advise from AEBL. I use a lot of Deer skin purchased fro various purveyors. These a tanned fully processed hides. I understand my number one source Warden Leathers is no longer in business but since zI have retired my knife sheath business I no longer have a need for the skins. It would be worth a quick google search aand phone call to Warden Leather to verify if they are still in business or not. The last working number I have was 518 332 1016 and I generally worked with Brad who was aware of the fact that I needed 2/3 OZ, ( fairly thin). Good Luck! Quote
