Gritzner sole stitcher

Like I announced in a different topic - here are some pics.

The little alcohol burner has never been lit - nor has the basin near the spool for top thread ever been filled with either gum trag or oil.

Comes equipped with a #4 cover plate, a #4 needle and a knife transporter (Risser).

I do not make shoes, but the seller did not know what he was selling - advertised it as a cover stitch machine (Kettelmaschine in German) and the price was right.

Right now the stitcher has Forellenfaden for top thread (don´t know the English word - a direct translation would be trout thread) - it is a braided thread.

I do make leather belts from 6mm leather - but either my Adler 4 or the Adler 5 can handle that much quicker - even with thick thread.

But : having is better than wanting  --- it will make a good item to trade for a burnisher or something else I may need in the future.

 

Plus : the need for a manual for the Gritzner was the main reason that I registered on this here web site.

spelling - I hate mistakes

They’re great machines, you can still get needles for them. 

At two cranks per stitch it does get tiring though. I need to put a motor on mine.

I would love to see more pictures of the alcohol burner! Mine is missing that and I wasn’t aware it was even an option.

What style of feed dog does yours have? There are two - a toothed one for crepe soles and a channeling one for leather.

I have the knife transporter - it just has one tiny tooth at the beginning of the blade.

You only need the burner if you use waxed/pitched thread in your bobbin. Nowadays it is more practical to use Polyester thread.

Actually you do not need the burner at all - an electric heat gun can do the same job (takes about 2 to 4 minutes) - and that is an item usually found in most work shops.

But I can take some pics including measurements of the burner tomorrow - maybe you know a weldor who can fabricate one for you from an old alcohol burner as used in labs and such - these have round tanks but you can use the wick holder with its´cap and just need to weld up a rectangular tank.

Here, I made some pics - know what it is like to wait for info.

The burner is 75mm long -- 31mm high and 34mm deep.

The wick holder is facing towards the inside of the Gritzner at a 45° angle and has a course 12mm thread.

There is no cap - my mistake - but the burner has a vent hole of 2mm diameter with a small chamfer on the top.

The 2 round plugs on top of the burner are made from rubber - to prevent the burner from rattling inside the housing during operation of the machine.

should naturally read : to prevent rattling inside the HOUSING (not hosing) during operation of the machine.      Sorry - I´m a stickler on spelling.

Mine came with the toothed one for crepe soles. I made a knife one from a bit of old hacksaw blade, just guessing at the dimensions but it seems to work Ok.
