esantoro Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 Do any of you know wehre I can get a paring machine that is used in the bookbinding industry? This seems like it would be a good alternative to the motorized edge skivers. Two names I've dug up in my searches are Brockman and the Scharfix Paring Machine model 2000. For protability I think I'm going to start getting serious about looking for the Scharfix. ed Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted February 26, 2007 Moderator Report Posted February 26, 2007 Ed, I looked into the Scharfix paring machine a while back. I want to say the price was about $400 (?) at one place. I talked to the seller who just used it for bookbinding, and she thought that the capacity was only about 6 oz, and indicated that it sometimes bunched up with 4 oz leather for her. Artisan and Ferdco both have a motorized skiver that is going for about $1200. I am kind of leaning that way, but am not in any hurry. Will look at them at the tradeshows, and play with one first. Bruce Johnson I've seen the Scharf-fix on the net for around $325. It seems that someone would be selling a used one for around $75. I guess quality items really do manage to maintain their value.
