Bible Cover spline

Hi. I'm fixing to do my first bible cover. I'm either going to do one piece and skive the "binding" area or two pieces with a 2/3 oz piece to sew the 4/5 is cover pieces to. What do you think would work best? Better way to do this? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
