Members Patrice Posted December 21, 2007 Members Report Posted December 21, 2007 Hello all! I'm about to finish my leather x-mas presents, and by the past, i was not completly happy with the results with satin sheen, leather sheen, block out, tan kot ect. Each time i was using one of this product, it pick up a bit of my color or it was leaving some fine line (don't know how to call those lines). So, one day i was cleaning and polishing and waterproofing my boots, i just taught : hey, why i don't i give a try on my leathers goods with mink greasse. It just go well. First, i use neutral shoe polish 2 coats, then, i'm applying a thin layer of minl grease and let it sit for about 30 minutes to 2 hours. It's just work well! I then polish the item with a shoe brush and, voilà ! Did someone else use mink oil and neutral shoe polish? I,M curious and wanted to see if i'm the only one who's using this method. And, by the way, Merry Christmas to you and your familly! Quote

Members CitizenKate Posted December 22, 2007 Members Report Posted December 22, 2007 The fine lines are probably where the stain or antique got more than one stroke of the sponge or brush with the finish. Those acrylic finishes are tricky to apply over water-based stains without picking up some of the stain. I haven't tried the mink oil, but I have recently tested neutral shoe polish on the new water-based stains and antiques, and it creates a very nice finish without disturbing the antique or stain at all. Tan-Kote doesn't disturb the antique as easily as the acrylic finishes, but it will if you work it long enough. I've gotten some pretty nice results from it, as well.
