Members IconBycon Posted February 28 Members Report Posted February 28 (edited) I’m adding an extra snap fastener to a leather jacket, but I’m stuck on sizing when ordering online. I measured the visible stud at a little over 7 mm (see photo). What industry standard size name should I be searching for? Also, when sellers list sizes, what does it refer to (post length, socket size, etc.)? Any guidance (with links please) on what to buy so it matches the existing snaps would be appreciated. Digit Posted Monday at 07:41 AM Report Posted Monday at 07:41 AM That's an O-type snap (the other type you'll find is S-type, they have a smaller closed bubble on the male part). The standard sizes for O-type snaps are 12.5mm and 15mm and it refers to the cap size. See https://www.pethardware.com/en/snap-fasteners/heavy-duty-snap-fastener-nickel-plated-4184/ https://www.lederhuis.com/rivets/snap_fastener.php also lists the spring diameter size; 7mm spring diameter corresponds with a 12.5mm snap. When comparing shaft sizes (not that there's much choice), take into account that your leather should be at least 1mm thinner than the length of the shaft. Quote
