I was repairing an old leather bag recently and ran into a problem removing some hardware pieces without scratching the surrounding leather. Metal screwdrivers work, but they can easily leave marks if you slip. One tool that helped a lot was a set of plastic trim removal tools. They’re originally made for removing car interior panels, but the thin edges actually work well for gently prying under hardware parts like clips, panels, or decorative pieces attached to leather goods. Because the tools are plastic, they’re much less likely to damage the leather surface or the finish on metal hardware. Some of the shapes are also useful for getting into tight spaces wher…

I’m adding an extra snap fastener to a leather jacket, but I’m stuck on sizing when ordering online. I measured the visible stud at a little over 7 mm (see photo). What industry standard size name should I be searching for? Also, when sellers list sizes, what does it refer to (post length, socket size, etc.)? Any guidance (with links please) on what to buy so it matches the existing snaps would be appreciated.

I am at the end of my wits looking for this. It is a double prong, roller buckle and is used on watch bands. I can find the entire band premade, but I'm doing a custom band to replace my customer's old, broken one. His original had the buckle but it's pretty worn. It is for a 1-1/2" strap, but the depth is only about 7/8". I found some 1-1/2" double prong roller buckles and ordered 5, but they just came in today and they are way too long and the prongs are huge. OK for a belt, but not usable on a wrist. Does anyone have a source for these? I have tried OTB but no luck. Thanks Tom

Hello, I'm a hobbyist looking for insight from those of you who have used tubular rivets in your leatherwork. My work is focused on attaching veg tan leather straps to canvas bags. I am not currently in a high volume production environment. Double cap rivets (set with hand tools) have proved to be unreliable (I accept that the issue is my skill in setting the rivets). 11mm tubular rivets, with caps, is what I have in mind. Who offers the best setter, tubular rivets, and caps for a hobbyist in a low volume production environment? Thank you for sharing your recommendations, insight and experience. JackLeather

I am going to make my wife a two prong mechanics belt. However, the reason why is she’s allergic to most metals pretty severely. The cheap one you see on Weaver and whatnot are nickel. Her worst one. I saw a post on here from 2011 that somebody made these out of brass. Anybody still make two prong mechanics belt hardware from brass?

Has anyone used aluminum rivet and burrs? I was in Tandy this weekend and saw some for sale, it got me wondering about their strength and durability. They were marketed as decorative which is what sparked the question. I really like using copper rivets they are pretty strong and give a nice look; however when used with stainless hardware it clashes. Aluminum would solve this problem. I know aluminum is a reasonably strong metal so I think they would be fine but anyone with experience using them that has any input would be appreciated. If it helps my intended application for these would be for attaching buckles onto horse headstall or show cattle halters. Thank you …

Working on a new project, and I ran into the ole "what's this thing called" hurdle. Leather is going to be 1/2" wide, thickness to be determined on hardware if/when I can find this. Thanks in advance!

I tried my hand at a new skill: sand casting my own conchos. I would say the process was a tad more difficult to learn than I expected. However, after a couple of lightbulb moments (a few actually), I was able to churn them out pretty successfully. These are cast in tin, which is easy to melt and work with. I plan on making them in silver eventually.

Hi All, I am looking to buy some new double end snaps. In the past I used to buy Tandy Glove Snaps (which have a button end on both back and front when fitted) in bags of 100. I stocked up when the Tandy shop in Northampton was closing but I’ve now run out and I can only find bags of 10 at Tandy Europe. Does any one have any suggestions where I can find a suitable alternative in viable quantities, or do you think using rivets instead of the tops/bottoms would work? Thanks for reading 👍

I had a belt from Nacona leather.... maybe 20 years ago. It was leather with camo inlay and these 2 deer skull conchos. I kept them. Base this Keychain for my best friend and intended to make one for myself, but somehow my dad got it, and lost it. I really like the concho. I have a bit of a concho collection fetish and want to add this back into it. I have spent countless hours looking, tried contacting nacona and have come up completely empty handed. If anyone knows where, or if they're available I would appreciate the information. Thanks
