grasshopper Report post Posted January 20, 2009 Hi, what finish do you suggest for finishing a double layer gun belt? Would Acrylic Resolene be flexable enough and would it give a crack/ wrinkle appearance as it wears or breaks in? Thanks! Karl
Shorts Report post Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Right now I've finished a few belts in Resolene (single layer and double layer). Makes for a slick looking belt. The finish is flexible so no cracks. The leather itself gets folded and wrinkled and impressed on due to actual use and movement. But the finish stays just fine. I'm considering trying other finishing products in order to compare but not quite sure what yet. Edited January 20, 2009 by Shorts
Lobo Report post Posted January 21, 2009 For a final finish I have used Fiebing's Bag Kote for years. Never a problem like you have anticipated. Low gloss, eggshell like finish. Spray it, sponge it, swab it, do it however you like. Just don't try to apply it when cold; less than room temperature can result in streaking and blotching that can't be corrected. Old saddle makers love it.
