HarleyChef Report post Posted February 19, 2009 Hey Gang- I have a few deerhides that were tanned white (older, and starting to grey). I'm looking to re-dye them black. I've messed around with some scraps and USMC Black dye, and have gotten mixed results. Aside from totally submersing the leather in dye, has anyone re-dyed previously tanned deerhides? If so, what worked best and what were your results. Thanks! Gary

HarleyChef Report post Posted February 20, 2009 Vinegaroon bath would be my best suggestion...after TESTING. Didn't think of that, thanks. I'll give that a test run and see what happens.

HarleyChef Report post Posted February 20, 2009 hello there , another way to go is try a strong solution of RIT DYE OR A SIMILAR PRODUCT. I thought of that but was afaid that the color will run if it gets wet. Also wasn't sure about setting the dye with vinegar on leather.
