You don't need to be rich to get a lace cutter. As for making your own, Bruce Grant's book shows a guy cutting lace with a knife and using his thumb for a guide. vander Report post Posted March 10, 2009 Ok so I have a friend who had an old StriptEase cutter and I have cut about ten ft of 1/8 wide lace from a circle of rawhide that was about 14.5in in diameter. my question now is how do I straighten it out, just wet it and stretch it lightly or what? thanks in advance vander. I am going to have another one made some day and when I do I will add another 3 inches on and put another angle at 30 degrees. It would also be nice if there were some kind of finger on the collar so that there wasn't so much surface area against the string when cutting. Old timer, I have been using the small utility knife blades, they are about an inch or so long. I use a black marker and put a mark along the cutting edge that wears off as I go. By the way where did you get the plastic disk to make it from? I did manage to get a fairly small string with my cheap lace maker last night by cutting down a larger string (about 3/16 down to say 1/8 or 3/32).
