megabit Report post Posted March 13, 2009 I took the romal from a busted set of harness leather reins and made a quirt with some rawhide buttons. I am semi happy with how it turned out but wish the big button at the bottom turned out better. What do you guys think?
rawhide1 Report post Posted March 13, 2009 megabit That will sure nuff put a welt on ones ass!! And I think it's a great way to reuse some busted gear. It looks like to me that on the top and bottom pineapple knots you got out of sync somewhere. The reason I say this is because I can see parallels that aren't split. The long pineapple above the bottom pineapple looks good. I'm not familiar with the second one down but it looks kinda cool. The spanish ring knots look pretty good they could maybe tightened up and evened up a little. Keep after it. That's my .02 cents worth Mike

The reason I say this is because I can see parallels that aren't split. The bottom one wasn't covering and I made another interweave (first time I've tried that). I need to play with that concept some more to figure it out. I thought I had the top one ok though, now looking closer I see where I went o3 instead of 02 in at least one place. Plate 154 Grant's Encyclopedia Thanks for the feedback, everyone here has been a great deal of help to me over the last year trying to learn this stuff. It is starting to come together finally. Mike What a brilliant idea..but I love quirts! I'm doing something similar to an old bridle and reins. I'm done with the bridle and it looks great, haven 't started the reins yet. I don't think you should sell yourself short, that's a nice piece and I think you should try and fix that pineapple knot if you have the patience. Make another pass on the turks head if you are worried about coverage.
Alan Bell Report post Posted March 14, 2009 Great idea Mike and the way to get those knots better is to take a sharp knife and cut the crappy ones off! You can do better and there is no reason to leave those on there. 4 of the knots on those reins i made you were cut off and re tied!! Ohh and even better you give me a little shove to get better, guess I better cut some more string and cut off screwed up knotts. Mike
