Hilly Report post Posted March 6, 2008 After oogling and drooling over some album covers with Sheridan carving and beaded borders, I've decided that I would like to get a hold of a 1/8 inch beader blade for my swivel knife. Does anyone know of a ready source? I know Tandy does not carry them, and Hidecrafter is out of them, and don't know when/if they will get more. If I can get one already made it would save me the hassle/cost of having one custom made. Either way, I just GOTTA HAVE ONE! I'm sure others of you are familiar with that feeling.... I'll keep my fingers crossed.... Hilly

whinewine Report post Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) Contact Cathy Schlim at CSchlim@yahoo.com. She just turned in an order for Henley knives for a bunch of us & possibly may be able to get in an order for an extra beader blade for you at a reduced cost. She has a good rapport with the Henley people. Tandy also does carry the ceramic beader blades. The local store people may not know it as a beader blade, but that's what it is. Just ask for the ceramic double line blade. Edited March 7, 2008 by whinewine

I want a blade that leaves a 1/8" wide rounded bead. I'm not sure what the blade from Tandy does... It may just leave a flat line between the cuts, or it may be really narrow? Maybe just give your local tandy store a call & ask someone knowledgeable & express your concerns to that person/manager. (S)he should be able to give you the correct & truthful answers. (I don't particularly like ceramic blades as I find that they have way too much drag, but many people absolutely love them.)
mulefool Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I've got one of the ceramic ones. It makes a pretty decent cut,but it doesn't round the center. I didn't know Barry King made them. I might look into getting one of his.
steveh Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Mulefool, I have found even with better quality steel beader blades the first cut is fairly flat, but if you go back over it and burnish a little deeper with blade you get the nice round appearence you desire. Rawhide Report post Posted March 12, 2008 One caution on Barry's blades. They have larger shanks than what tandy knives will hold. If you have a knife made by Barry, then you're golden, but if not, you may have to ask for a thinner shank. By the way, he has very good bead blades. Hilly Report post Posted March 13, 2008 Henley Manufacturing sells beader blades for $37 for a 1/8 inch. They also sell 2 different size shafts for different swivel knifes. They gaurantee that you will like it, or they will refund your money, including shipping and return shipping. They are currently out of stock, but they will be making more in the very near future. I put in an order a week ago for one, and was told that I would get it in about 3 - 4 weeks. I have a Tandy swivel knife - the one that comes in a kit, so made sure and ordered the 7/32" shank size. I just thought it was worth a short wait to save some $$$. Hilly

I also ordered a knife and two blades through Cathy Schlim when she offered to collect and do a bulk order from them. I can't wait until they arrive. That may be why they are behind a bit. They are making a bunch of blades for that bulk order. Marlon

The other Henley blade are great as well. I have several of them. You will certainly be happy with their blades. I didn't get Peter's blades from Cathy....bought both of them directly from him. greg gomersall Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I've tried alot of beader blades over the years and have not been totaly sold on any of them. I have a couple of push beaders I got from Bob Douglas which I like the heck out of. He makes these out of harness creasers and I feel I can apply alot more down pressure while still keeping excellant control of my line. Use whatever works best for you this is just another option I haven't seen discussed. Greg
okiwen Report post Posted March 14, 2008 A little side track..... I understand that Henley knives are good and Chuck Smith knives are good and some others as well I'm sure. What is the diffence between the Smith and Henleys that would make a $30 diffence in value? Thanks to all.
