yotebuster1200 Report post Posted April 23, 2009 I dont want to wound rude buy trying to rush an answer here It is just that my uncle is on a trip and came across a Union Special 54200F sewing machine that is for sell for $200. He told me to find out if it was a good machine and call him back in the morning. He didnt give me a lot of details except that They have had them to a sewing place and had them checked out and they are in good condition. My uncle and I were going to go in on it together if it is heavy enough to do what we want. We are hoping to be able to sew things such as, Soft saddle panyards, Top packs, Canvas tents, Sewing a few layers of chap leather together and maby sewing 6 or 8 oz tooling leather to a peice of chap leather. If anyone has any info on this machine and could help me out that would be great. Sorry for the short notice. Thanks Scott

Cobra Steve Report post Posted April 23, 2009 Scott, the machine is a multi needle machine for garments. It is designed to sew elastic in waistbands. There are different gauge sets dtermining the distance between the needles. The most common is the 4 needle with a 1/4" space between the needles. Just look at the waist band on your boxers(some) and you will see what this machine does. Thanks, Steve

barra Report post Posted April 23, 2009 Yotebuster. Overlocking is the bound edge you see mainly on apparel. Have a look at the inside of the seams on you shirts or jeans. Overlocking also is referred to as Serging and sometimes Merrowing after the inventor of machines that form this type of stitch. Barra
