This subject has no dauht been brought up before but could'nt find any thing in search - Have seen other peoples work where one color has been gradually faded or blended into another (in my case I am trying black/red). Wondered if any body can enlighten me to the mystery of how to do this and which dyes are best before I ruin another piece.

Most of the 'good' fades from one colour to another seem to be done with an airbrush...

If you don't have an air brush, you can also get this effect using a bristle brush using dry brush techniques. Here's a link to a coloring photo demo done by ClayB that may have some useful information for you.

There are also several books that cover this technique. Peter Main's book "The Main Technique of Coloring Leather" is the one that comes most immediately to mind.
