Hi all

Was out garage saleing today and found two "reallllllly" old camp stools the canvas tops are rotted off - mostly

but the frame is solid (I hope) - and they were 25 cents each

I know I could replace them with some canvas that I have around here ---- but

has anyboudy replaced this with leather and what 'thickness' did you use?

(and yes Ray, I am still going to make a tri-stool, but you can never have too many places for people to sit, you know?or use as a foot stool)

yes, with 8-9+ oz.

I wrote an article some time back which was published in Leathercrafter's Journal. It showed 2 stools (including construction) that I had done (1 carved, 1 with the corners stamped.

Not sure what you mean by a 'camp stool' Suze - I have visions of pink crushed velvet...

one like this Ray and I have PURPLE crushed velvet -- but no pink.....giggle

Nothing camp about that stool, Suze!

I did a few seats for stools like this some time back (I picked up the frames cheap at a fishing tackle shop) and used 3.5mm tooling leather. They looked pretty good with an edge pattern and a central motif.

I hardly dare say it here, but I actually riveted the leather onto the stools. It was quick and easy and they sold pretty well. I just wish I could get some more of those frames!

Thanks Ray --

I never thought about rivets. I was thinking of punching holes and wraping ip around the frame and lacing it on.

and that would be a "campy" stool in my book if you make it with pink crushed velvet. giggle

The problem with tightly laced leather stool tops is that they need to be quite supple if you want to be able to fold the stool frame - which is why I riveted the tougher leather into tubes that allowed the frame to rotate easily inside.

didn't think of that

See -- I knew I kept you around for a reason..... :P

and do you know that those mailing envelopes you sent me are the PURRFECT place for a cat butt to sit on?

Dimwit cat keeps knocking them off the desk so that she can sit on them......no one elses but yours.

whoops: the camp stools I did the article on were the three legged variety, not this kind. sorry.

russ

that's ok - I want to do one of them too.

I am also thinking about just taking a piece of board and making them little tables

put a cleat on the bottom of the board to catch the frame of the seat.

Mnnnnn.... could do both - replace the seat with canvas and make a board for the top -- twofers
