Members troop Posted June 5, 2009 Members Report Posted June 5, 2009 i know that neatsfoot oil is used in conjunction with dyes. i was wondering if it works the same with/ or is reccommended with stains, more particularly the gel antiques? MADMAX22 Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 I have a small batch that I mixed oil and antique up in. Its what I primarily use. Not sure if its the correct way to do it but I get good results. The key is experiment. See if you like how it works out. I found I could control the antique a little easier when it was mixed with oil. On the dyes I tried with my feibings dye and it did not mix with the neats foot oil. Quote
Members tat2 Posted June 6, 2009 Members Report Posted June 6, 2009 Neets foot oil look best when you tan the leather with it in the sun, it offer a nice burnt orange colour. Then add the antique stuff on after but you'll have to play around, do not leave on the gel too long as it hardens and cracks after your done you project.
