Shorts Report post Posted June 10, 2009 I've been noticing on the backside of my holsters that I can just make out the knot in each hole. Seems like the lockstitch isn't as centered between the layers as I thought they'd be. The front side looks great. What is that a sign of? What do I need to do in order to get the lockstitch more hidden? I'm using 7/8oz leather and 207 thread top and bottom.
SteveBrambley Report post Posted June 10, 2009 (edited) Sounds like your top tension needs increasing a bit. Try giving the tensioner finger nut a half turn or so, clockwise, until the 'knot' disappears. If it pops up on top, you've gone too far! Shorts Report post Posted June 10, 2009 Thanks Steve. I'll give it a little and see how it goes For future reference, will the tension needed change with different size threads?

What do I need to do in order to get the lockstitch more hidden? I'm using 7/8oz leather and 207 thread top and bottom. The upper tension needs to be tightened. As far as I know (and take this with a grain of salt because I'm still new at this too) tighten both the main and aux tension the same amount each time you tightened and loosen too. I would get some scraps of the same stuff you're sewing and sew and adjust tension accordingly a little at a time until it's where you like it. I know this morning I gave myself a headache because I went to rethread the machine and when I started sewing all my knots where way on the bottom side and I couldn't figure out what the heck happened. I thought I had screwed up my tension real bad but I backtracked and found I had missed the needle bar hole when threading and that fixed the problem for the most part so make sure to go back and make sure you have everything threaded correctly first because it can be the easiest things that through things out of whack. Call Steve too and he'll be able to help. I know he's helped me alot with all of my newbie questions lol.
