MADMAX22 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Interesting idea. Cant help ya much maybe there are some ex marines around that know a little history. That first color the last word looks like "Death" and maybe "OF DEATH" but not sure about the other side of it.

MADMAX22 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 (edited) What is the reason for the leather collar and when was it adopted?Tony. It was used back in the days of the sabers, late 1800's as a defense from having your jugalur cut open. It also from what I read made sure that marines kept there heads high (no slouching) when in ranks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leatherneck Edited June 21, 2009 by MADMAX22
MADMAX22 Report post Posted June 21, 2009 I think it says "valley of death" but I cant be 100% sure. I looked for a while and cant seem to find any reference with pictures or direct comments. Maybe a quick call to a museum monday will answer your question.
