Old machine needing parts

I have this antique machine :blink: that looks very much like the heavy machines made today and is a dream of a machine for my purposes, only the shuttle and various other parts of the shuttle -race are just plain worn out. :deadsubject: I have an original handbook ( owners manual) 21st edition, and would like to find someone who knows where (if at all) I would source some spares. Focus on the shuttle and race.

Hi,

I seem to recall that parts for these machines are very difficult to come by, these days. But I am sure some one will correct me on this if I'm wrong! However, they are still very popular machines, as many people still use them.

Aaron Martin Harness have quite a few bits and pieces for these machines. Also Leightons in Canada might be able to help. Good luck with keeping your "old girl" going, they are awesome machines.

Lovely old machine. You'll get her going again with a bit of work.

DJ's correct, Aaron Martin in Canada is your best best. They're an Amish company and don't like email too much, but will respond given time.

They do carry a new shuttle in stock. The shuttle race guides you may need to have made. Or you can make them yourself. The guides on both my machines are soft brass.

Ask Aaron Martin for advice.

It's rare to see one on it's original stand. Most were bolted to benches in factories. The stands are quite valuable.

The fact that it doesn't say 'Pearson' on it probably means it was imported privately from England. Pearson were the USA and Canada distributors and machines imported by them had a 'Pearson' flywheel.

It looks like you are missing more than just the shuttle if your picture is complete! You are missing the entire shuttle track. Did you take it off or is it really not missing?

Badger, just to clarify something you said, the machines in North America do not have Pearson on the flywheel. Pearson was bought by British United Shoe machinery and that is what is on the flywheel. Some of them also have John O Flaherty as sole agents on a second row of text inside the outer ring of text. The actual Pearson machine is about 75% the size of the British United machine which is what most people have. I have only run across 3 of the original Pearsons here in Canada in the last 10 years!

I will have new shuttles available for this machine soon. I also supply most of the parts to Aaron Martin. He has a few parts that he carrys that are made locally and the rest are supplied to him by me.

Hope that clears up a little of the mystery about your machine.

I have this same dream machine which I got from Jack Leighton in Alberta. Check his web site. Jack is a machinist and specializes in reburbishing machines. If he hasn't got it he can probably make it.

Hi Doublestitch,

I have a couple of original British made shuttles for the British United No.6, Aaron Martin do have them but they're $450 without the bobbin. I would want $350 each for them. I also have two complete machines, but as I'm in England the shipping would be expensive.
