small doming tool for small diameter rivets

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a small doming tool for use with small diameter (.085") solid rivets (to dome the post end), something about half the diameter of Tandy's doming tool. I can't use a solid rivet tool for #14 copper rivets (I already have one for #12 rivets) , because I need the doming tool to fit into tight spaces.

Thanks,

Ed

Ed,

This is a tool you can make pretty easily yourself. Take some rod or a small bolt and grind it out with a dremel.

I made the doming tool, but it seems a little light duty. There's something to be said for having a larger mass of hardened steel underneath the maul, but a narrow concave tip.

Thanks, again, Bruce, for this suggestion. It was superb.

Hi Ed,

Old post I know, but I have a similar thing going, plus I'm new at this. First is, have you found a supplier you like for your #14s?. I'm finding my familiar places carry only the 9s and 12s. Also, I saw an old sheath that was nicely domed from a tool and set real nice so it wouldn't rub things that went by it. Is there a setup someone would be so kind as to recommend so mine don't look like my brother hit it with a 2 lb. brick hammer?

thanks,

spring is here, tomato seeds in,

joe
