Members jcwalsh Posted July 8, 2009 Members Report Posted July 8, 2009 (edited) Hello everyone, I have been lurking for the last few weeks and this is my first post. I just completed my first Leather related projects. I started with a single oak 1x4x6' and built a stitching pony from the Wild Rose Trading Co. plans and a stamp holder. I have been practicing carving/stamping & stitching and am planning on starting my first project this weekend. I have already made plans and cut the leather for a cell phone case (Touch Pro), but my Wife wants me to do a belt for her and I know that doing my first project for her would mean a lot. After those I want to make a cover for a moleskine journal and I have seen some great examples on this site. I look forward to working with you all in the future and thanks for having such a informative & educational site. Stiching Pony Plans Edited July 8, 2009 by jcwalsh Quote
Contributing Member rdb Posted July 8, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted July 8, 2009 jc, if the quality of your leatherwork comes close to your woodworking, you'll do just fine! Welcome to LW! Quote
RandyScott Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Welcome JC, The stitching pony looks good! I too made one from Chucks' plans and eventually had to use a portable belt sander/wood rasps and sand paper to feather the front and rear edges on the board that go under your thighs. While the edge was rounded, it was still too abrupt an angle and cut off the circulation in my legs as I use a fairly hard bottom computer chair. Your mileage may vary. I spent less than $20, a Saturday morning fabricating it, used several coats of clear Danish Oil and steel wooled between coats and on Sunday used it. Quote
