I wasn't gonna miss out, and you shouldn't have, either! ClayB taught his very first class at the Tandy's in Rapid City. I traveled 430 miles, and Kate went more than twice that far to witness the special event. The house was full, of wonderful people, laughs, fun and learning. Now I know how to make a little birdie ClayB style. I'd show you a picture, but my daughter took my camera to London. Kate and Clay have lots, maybe they'll get on here when they get home.

I just got back a couple of hours ago... I'll be sleeping in Monday morning, but I should be able to get the images processed and posted no later than Tuesday. It really was a great workshop! It was fascinating to see all the different styles of carving and working with leather everyone has.

Here are the photos I took during the class. I think only a couple of people actually finished their projects, and since I was a little preoccupied with my own, I failed to photograph the ones that did finish. Me sorry!!! (Note to self for next time.) However, there are a few shots of work-in-progress, and hopefully you can see the variety of styles that everyone had.

I'll be posting mine when it's finished (for better or worse!).

Bert & Earnie (aka "the Clays") put on a fantastic weekend! The hospitality was awesome, the class was fun and very well-done, and the Saturday cookout was the funnest party I've been to in years. I really enjoyed meeting all the people who came to both events.

Let's do it again!

It was a blast!! ClayB did an outstanding job teaching the class. He had a full color lesson plan that covered the steps that was given to each student and they were also given enough leather dust to make several more of the birds when they got home. I had two of the students come back on Monday and pick up leather, cova colors and other supplys to work on their own projects. Very successfull class!!! If anyone wants to learn the 3-D leather embossing get ClayB to come teach it to you!!! It is worth three times the class fee!!

Hey you forgot, I brought doughnuts too!!!

I've got some pictures that I'll try and get posted one of these days when things slow down a bit. What I couldn't get done if I didn't have to work......

I'm really glad that Bert finally talked me into doing a "real" class. All the people in the class made it a lot of fun. It's hard to believe that people would drive hundreds of miles to take a class from me (Thanks Kathy and Kate!!!!) :grouphug5vj5: but I'm sure glad they did.

I was dissappointed that several of us didn't get finished with the painting part of the class. That's something I wanted to spend more time on, but we ran out. :(

I got an email from one of the participants in the class today and he said that he had entered his little birdie in the county fair and it took a first place. How cool is that????

And yes Kate, let's do it again!!!! Maybe next time you can be the teacher :)

Oh yeah, don't forget, Kathy is going to be teaching a class in Rapid later this fall. I am sure it's gonna be great too. I plan on being back for it.

Kate, you out did yourself in the picture department! The only thing you missed was a picture of yourself! You should have taken a picture of Tall Clay's short puppy, too. I had so much fun up there. Like Kate said, the hospitality was great, and all the people up there are nice as ever. I even learned how to take care of my pasture problems during class. ClayB's handouts were among the nicest I have ever seen. I have to work harder at putting together my next class if I want to stay in Clay's league!

Thank you Clay and Clay for the great weekend! Let's do it again soon. :You_Rock_Emoticon:

Hey you forgot, I brought doughnuts too!!!

Did they still have icing on them? Did anyone dare to try one? Or do you just let your dog lick the ones you bring to LW?????

Congratulations on what looks to have been a great learning (and teaching) experience for all!

Here's a few pictures that Stacy took at the class. When we were getting close to finished, people started leaving before I got a chance to get a group photo or pictures of the finished projects. But I did get a few to prove Kate was actually there.

Here's one with Kate in it. She's the one in the yellow shirt ;)

Here's one of Bert and Kathy in his shop at home. While we were there, he showed us how he makes stacked leather pens. He has lots of cool tools, and WAY too much room. It's just not fair!!

Again, most everyone had left before I remembered to get my camera, but here is one of Bert, Kathy, Kate and me along with Bert's triplets.

And the final one. It looks like Riley is wishing we'd all leave so he could go to bed already.

Looks like a good time had by all. I struggling getting over that I could not make the treck. We need to pull enough people together to drag you out east here for a class. Especially southeast...hint....hint. How would you like the white beaches Clay?

And, have enjoyed all the pictures of everyone.

Hi Regis,

It would have been great if you could have made the class. I think it went well enough that I may consider teaching again sometime, but Florida???? That'd be quite a drive. Ask again in January when it's 30 below and the snow is 3 feet deep and I might seriously think about it!!

Denise,

My dog is getting pretty old and he can't handle all that sugar anymore so the doughnuts are safe to eat these days. Well, most of them are. I kind of have a thing for frosting too, but Kathy didn't seem to notice ;) . Can you imagine what the doughnut budget would have to be around here if everyone thought they were safe to eat?????

That's only because you knocked my mind right out of my head! I wonder if it's still rolling around on the floor, or if it got swept up and taken out with the trash. I was wondering about those doughnuts. Not only was there frosting missing, but the jelly stuff on the inside seemed to be disappearing. :eusa_naughty:

It was sure a lot of fun to take part on this class. I envy everybody who could take part. Unfortunately Germany is to far distanted to come over for a weekend. But hopefully I can manage it to travel to Sheridan or another leather show in 2 or 3 years.

Clay B, if you teach also a workshop during this time I hope I can take part.

I will look what future brings.

Greetings

Gisela
