antiqued saddle... what about rain?

Recommended Posts

I was recently caught in a rain shower while riding a saddle with a Fiebings antique finish. "SPOTS" from the rain droplets stained the seat while taking the saddle off. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? I know now why some saddlers don't antique.

Tan-kote will water spot. Use Neat-lac (if you can find any), or Clearlac as your to coat. If rubbed in well when applied they both give a very nice satin top finish.

Yes, I tan-cote as a top finish, but I didn't know that was the problem. THANKS.

I have a question. Will the Neat-lac or Clearlac turn grey after awhile? I've cleaned several that have this dirty, grey look to them that can not be cleaned unless you remove the finish. Is this another product?

I've never had that problem on anything I've ever antiqued, and use that as a finish on pretty much everything I stamp. But thats not to say it can't happen.
