It has a lot of wrinkles & looks to have some scars/scratches, but sometimes these things work up the nicest since they add 'character' to the finished product. I've often incorporated 'defects' into a purse, or pouch, stressing that these are range markings & are a true sign of natural leather :blahblahblah: . IF it takes water relatively evenly & IF the price is right, I don't see why you couldn't use it to your advantage (within limits, of course). It's certainly not a top grade hide by any stretch of the imagination, but, assuming the above listed IFs are true, it is certainly usable.

The second and third picture looks like there was something laying on top of the side and both were where the sun could hit them causing the difference in color. I have had the same thing happen before where the side was rolled up and sticking out from under the table and the sun hit it. It was a two tone hide afterwards.

It does have a sun tan in areas so maybe getting the whole thing in the sun for a bit will even it out maybe.

Over all its not too bad depending on what your gonna use it for from what I can see in the pics. Alot of it looks very usable.

Ofcourse it depends on what you paid for it also.

Where did you get it from if it's from where I think it's from it should carve and dye fine, I had a similiar looking hide and didn't have any problems with it. If you want to start using top notch stuff Toowoomba Saddlery www.ozsaddle.com carry Hermann Oak. I haven't ordered any yet but a saddlemaker my sister knows orders all his Hermann Oak from there.
