Horse Hide Belts vs Bull Hide

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready to make a "horse hide" belt & was wondering if the process was the same. I am going to make the liner out of 6/7 "bull hide" & then glue & sew the "horse hide" together. I have no experience, whatsoever, with "horse hide".

So my questions are: Is the process the same as "bull" ? Dyeing, Sewing, Burnishing, Sealer, Final Coat ect.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, I've never worked with bullhide, but I do use horsehide for everything. Horsehide works just like normal leather, except it burnishes easier (in my experience), so I don't think you should have any problems. I look forward to seeing the belt!

Mike, I ordered a small amount from Springfield Leather. That's the only place I know that has any at all. If you find a supplier, let me know.

Thanks,

I use Milton Sokol--quick shipping, low prices, and good leather. Call and ask for Pete Olsen, he'll hook you up; (718) 441-2226

My thanks to all three of you! I have a friend who wants a holster and belt out of hourshide, and I had no idea where to look for a supply.
