yankeefan Report post Posted September 10, 2009 Hi, I would like to make placemats, and wonder what is the best sealant/protector to use to protect them from the spills of dining? Thanks for your wisdom!
jbird Report post Posted September 10, 2009 Howdy this is a bit of a hard deal but I think neat lac or clear lac would be your best bet how ever it's not a easy thing to seal leather totaly with time it will wear and stain but lac is your best bet. bruce johnson Report post Posted September 10, 2009 We make quite a few sets and have our own in use for at least 6 years. Mine have a chap leather body and tooled leather side borders. We have used Leathersheen or Supersheen on them. One good coat sponged on and then 3-5 light applications as things dry. They wipe off well and have held up. We haven't had a problem with the finish cracking either like you might expect.
