Members tande Posted September 13, 2009 Members Report Posted September 13, 2009 I have acces to Consew 226. I have been mostly handstitching, but it has been so time consuming it makes it hard to get as much done as I want to. I am just trying this machine out to see if it will work. Any suggestion or information any one can give would be great. I am not sure about what type of thread to use or where to get it. Any other tips on making this machine work would be great. Like I said i am just giving it a try to see if it will work. Thanks. Quote

It was, and still is a very good machine, one of the best when it was new. It has a small bobbin(G) style, but all parts are still available. Most, or all industrial sewing machine mechanics can repair this machine. If you are going to use it for leather, as usual, you should change the motor to a servo motor(the motor that's on there right now is probably a high speed motor because this machine was used primarily for upholstery, where they sew much faster), and add a speed reducer. Change the presser feet to the leather version(smooth bottom), so they don't mark the leather, and use a leather point needle. Depending on the cost, it may or may not be worth it.
