My name is John and I live in Nottinghamshire in the UK. I am a hobbyist knifemaker and have been making my own sheaths for a year or so but I need help to make my sheaths look better. I would like to get into sheridan style carving and I have seen some exquisite examples here so I look forward to learning from you all.

My current efforts.

Nice work on both the knives and the sheath. Welcome to Leather worker!

I am fifty years old and I have always lived in freedom; let me end my life free; when I am dead let this be said of me: 'He belonged to no school, to no institution, to no academy, least of all to any régime except the régime of liberty.'

Your knives look superb. What wood have you used for the handles?

The wood is Turkish Black Walnut, I got it from a gun stock maker. Looks nice on everything I tried it on.

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

Adding my hello's to the list, thats some nice sheath work there, there are some fantastic carvers here.... and most are especially helpful as you have seen looking forward to catching your next project pics. I make the occassional sheath myself, none as nice as yours though so I may come chasing for info.

Thanks for that, PM sent. Thank you all for the great welcome, I have been looking at the great work, posts and tutorials and have started my first piece of Sheridan carving today. A piece that was too ambitious to be honest but I couldn’t wait. I will post a picture when it's done.
